WELCOME!

Greetings,

Golden Vintage Cavaliers is based out of my home in Northern Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes and pine trees. The cavaliers live with my husband, two cats and Ruby Ann (our golden retriever) & me.

My love of dogs started as a child. Christmas of 1966 was special as I received a dog to call my own, Snoopy, a black standard dachshund/cocker spaniel mix. He lived for fourteen years and was the love of my life. A variety of mixed breeds followed from the local shelters until one day I saw a picture of a cavalier and I started investigating the breed. At that time cavaliers were not yet recognized by AKC so it was harder to find information on them and to locate a breeder. In 1995 AKC recognition came and with it the breeder referral system. I was able to contact several breeders and to actually be able to interact with a cavalier. Yes, it was the breed for me and amazingly it also became my husband breed. He had never wanted dogs, but had fallen in love with cavaliers. So in 1998 Dickens came to live with us, and the next year Jester joined him, and so on.

I have a small breeding program mostly breeding for myself hoping to produce a dog that I can compete in conformation, obedience, rally an agility. In my breeding program I know that while every puppy is not meant to be a “show’ dog, every dog is meant to be a family companion, With this in mind I would like my cavaliers to be companions that are healthy, have correct conformation and the ability to perform through either an organized event; such as earning a Canine Good Citizen or advanced obedience title, rally, agility, tracking, or just being able to go on a walk with the family.
My dogs have been health tested for heart, eyes, patella’s (knees) and when over two years of age hips are x-rayed. Results are available through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA).

I also believe in education and as such I belong to the following clubs to keep up with the latest information on cavaliers and training.
I am a Regular member of the following clubs; American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club (ackcsc), Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA (ckcsc, usa), Northern Lights Cavalier Club of Minnesota, Badgerland Cavalier Club, Iron Range Dog Training Club*, Duluth Kennel Club*, Arrowhead Dog Agility Association, Twin Ports Dog Training Club, North Star Toy Dog Club*,  and the Minnesota Iron Range Retriever Club*. Am an Associate member of  the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Greater Chicago and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Mid-Western Canada. (* Currently or have served as an officer, on the Board of Directors or on committee).

Over the years I have developed mentors in cavaliers and other breeds. Mentors have taught me dog structure, the art of showing in conformation, refined my skills in obedience and agility, how to read beyond the pedigree and learning strength and weaknesses in bloodlines, been there to answer questions and above else willing to share their knowledge to help me learn. I thank them for taking the time to invest in me.

I hope you enjoy browsing through this web site. Please feel free to leave comments on how I can improve. As with all things this too is a learning process.
